Facings are most commonly a type of edge treatment for neck and arm holes and occasionally slits. The essential mechanics required of a facing are that it 1) bind the edge and 2) be either decorative or invisible. Because we are most often working with rounded edges or a slit, clipping and grading seams is important. Otherwise, we end up with puckers and edges that won't stay put

Last Halloween we made 4 Jedi robes to go with some Star Wars masks we bought. These are the instructions to make the robes. We wanted to make the robes with as few pieces of fabric and as little sewing as possible

This pattern is conjectural. It is based upon garments seen in Persian miniature paintings of 1300 to 1620.I have made many of these and they do look like the paintings if done this way. This pattern incorporates evidence seen in 18th, 19th, and early 20th century extant garments from Mongolia, China and India. It is very similar to a long-sleeved kimono with side gores added to the skirts.

This diagram is based upon an extant garment shown in 'Lost Treasures Persia'. The garment is shown from the back, laid out flat. Front details are conjectural, based upon garments painted in miniature painting of that period and locale. This particular caftan is dated at last quarter of sixteenth century, though this type of garment was in style from about 1300 to 1620.

A toga is one of the simplest pieces of clothing, which you can make stylish and fabulous nevertheless. You can learn how make a toga out of almost any cloth that you can find around the house, like thin blankets or veils or bedsheet.

This pattern is based upon extant Turkish garments in the Topkapi museum, along with patterns for similar pants shown in Tilke. It is appropriate for Persian costumes from about 1300 to 1620. I have used a loom-width economy method of cutting since it is so easily adapted for this style of pants and gives the correct fullness.

I first posted the basic info about my version of an Italian chemise in my Florentine dress diary, but at the time, I talked more about my sources and changes I made to the pattern instead of tips about how to make one for yourself. So in the hopes of being more useful, I decided to go back and do a step-by-step guide in case you are interested in making your own chemise.
